Pennsy Views Northampton County, Northampton Street Bridge (Free Bridge), Easton, Pennsylvania, looking out to Warren County, Phillipsburg, New Jersey, USA. The Northampton Street Bridge is a bridge connecting Easton, PA and Phillipsburg, NJ that crosses the Delaware River. It is maintained by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission even though this bridge isn't a toll bridge. It is known locally as the "Free Bridge" thus distinguishing it from the Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge just upstream to the north.The original wooden bridge opened on October 14, 1806 The original bridge was designed and built by Timothy Palmer one of the most famous bridge builders of his time. Palmer's covered bridge at Easton endured many floods and storms while other bridges fell. However, by the late nineteenth century, when horse-drawn streetcars were replaced by trolley cars, the old wooden bridge could no longer handle the demands of traffic and a new structure was erected in 1895. The new bridge was designed by James Madison Porter III, a graduate of nearby Lafayette College with a degree in civil engineering, who hailed from a family long prominent in Easton and Pennsylvania history. thrift haul! My friend was kind enough to haul me and my finds around with her in her car today - I had a great time! The last stop of the day resulted in the ottoman! I almost bought one from UsedVictoria.com for $100 that I still would have needed to slipcover. My sister took one look at the online photo and replied back saying you'll find a cheaper used Ikea one I'm sure. And so I did! This red corduroy was sitting with a matching sofa and I thought I'd ask if they would break it up for me. They did - it was $35! They are nearly $200 new! Now I just need to make a more subtle slipcover - though maybe we'll keep this one out until after Christmas ; ) I'm so excited! Oh and Pyrex & back issues of Martha Stewart got my heart pumping too! I LOVE thrifting!
